Cover Letter
Dear Panel Members,
I am excited to have the opportunity to apply for the Events Officer's position with The Town of Port Hedland. I have completed my Graduate Diploma in Event Management from Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology, New Zealand (CPIT).
I am currently working as Events and Sponsorship Manager at Lincoln University located in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Prior to my role at Lincoln University I was an Events Coordinator for the Ara Institute of Canterbury. I joined Ara's Business Development & Marketing Team in Feb 2011 and since I have project managed major events including graduations, open days, career expos, corporate and several students’ events for Ara Council and the Chief Executive.
I started my events career in India, managing large scale events, with attendance in the thousands, before coming to Christchurch to study Event Management at CPIT.
After graduating, I worked with the Christchurch City Council on some of the city’s biggest and most well-known public events, including Classical Sparks, the Guy Fawkes fireworks display and Ellerslie International Flower Show.
I has also worked on key projects, such as the Rugby World Cup, Investec Super Rugby tournaments and one-day international cricket matches with VBase – one of New Zealand’s biggest venue management companies. Since taking up my role at Ara, I have managed over 15 graduation ceremonies and over 20 public open days.
I am passionate about bringing people and communities together with events. For me the most important elements to deliver a successful event are to pinpoint the purpose of the event, have a detailed plan, communicate clearly, and have a follow-up plan.
I am also South Island Head of the India New Zealand Business Council, which promotes New Zealand businesses to an international audience and I am willing to bring my existing connections and add value to the international business development at Lincoln University.
I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss how my experience will be beneficial in Lincoln University's commitment to teaching and research excellence, while also contributing to the student experience.
Kind regards,
Nathan Malone
